On "Close Up Volume 1" we were treated to her best songs on love. "Close Up Volume 2: People & Places" includes Vega's two biggest international hits "Luka" and "Tom's Diner". And yet this is, in a manner of speaking, a trip down memory lane, she cleverly manages to avoid sentimental nostalgia. The acoustic arrangements are clever and she's not afraid of using new material; "Man Who Played God" co-written with Danger Mouse and the late Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) was first released in 2010.
"Suzanne Vega deserves to be heard again quite aside from nostalgia."
