About Album
Austrian pianist David Helbock is known as a a gifted story-teller at the piano and in
this new outing with the Random/Control Trio, he concentrates mainly on pianists who have been his musical role models. He has chosen pieces by his favourite jazz pianists from Duke Ellington to Esbjörn Svensson, and played 12 interpretations ranging also beyond the jazz sphere to include for example the Spanish classical composer Joaquín Rodrigo. The originality of the interperations begins with the instrumentation he uses: Helbock has entrusted the project to his percussionless Random/Control Trio with two multi-instrumental wind virtuosi Andreas Broger and Johannes Bär. Shrill flutes, beatboxing voices or synthesizer sounds... This trio of futuristic jazz use everything imaginable – and more.
