About Artist
Jan Zehrfeld studied jazz guitar at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria (with Karl Ratzer), the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland (Raul Björkenheim), at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, Germany. Zehrfeld formed Panzerballett in 2004 driven by a desire to combine his hard rock roots with his deep understanding of and extensive experience with jazz and thereby find the common denominator within the two essentially different sound aesthetics. In 2005, Panzerballett released a self titled debut and entered into the German progressive rock scene with rave reviews. Through their career the band played a number of festivals, and opened for artist like John McLaughlin, Chick Corea. As musical influences, the band notes bands like Meshuggah, Tribal Tech , Planet X and Mats Morgan. The band describes their music as "delicate interlocking funk grooves with brutally hard, rhythmically complex riffs and jazz improvisation combined with ska-Death-Jazz".
