Kemani Cemal
About Artist
With his vocals set to the accompaniment of clarinet, ud, kanun, darbuka, enthusiastic hand-clapping and a trio of deep-voiced female singers, Kemani Cemal (born Kemani Cemal Cinarli) has helped to preserve the musical traditions of the Rom (gypsies) of Turkey. A native of Sulukule, a gypsy-dominated neighborhood in the city of Istanbul, Cemal incorporates a wide spectrum of Turkish music, including classical folk, wedding music, and belly dancing music, into his performances.
