Exceptionally gifted young jazz talent Hakan Başar’s debut album will be out soon
The youngest jazz pianist of Turkey, Hakan Başar, will release his debut album on October 18 through Ubuntu. The album release concert will take place on October 22 at Pera Fine Arts High School in Şişli.
2004-born Hakan Başar started playing the piano at the age of 8. After some ephemeral private lessons he has continued his studies with his father, who is a guitarist. He has done jazz piano studies with curriculums of foreign jazz pianists, and with transcription and repertoire of Michel Petrucciani, Oscar Peterson, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Barron, Hank Jones,Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan, he has mastered at his instrument. Having played his first show at the age of 10 within 5th Pera Music Festival, he has taken the stage at Cercle d'Orient, Caddebostan Cultural Center, Istanbul Hilton, BBVA (Esma Sultan), Akbank Syndicated Loan Signing Ceremony (Raffles Hotel), AkçanSA (Sabancı Center) with projects like "Tribute Michel Petrucciani","Tribute Oscar Peterson & Keith Jarrett" etc. As a finalist of the 2015 Istanbul Jazz Festival’s Young Jazz Competition, he has been invited to many other festivals in Turkey.
Hakan Başar got a chance to workshop with Chick Corea before his show in Istanbul and has met with Ron Carter, Russell Malone, Eddie Gomez and Donald Vega. He appeared as a guest in an İBB Kent Orchestra concert at CRR in January 2019 and took the stage with Hakan Aysev. In April 2019, Hakan Başar was at CRR stage again, this time alongside the TRT Jazz Orchestra.
Hakan Başar Trio featuring Ferit Odman on drums and Halil Çağlar Serin on bass guitar played a show at Akbank Sanat on May 22 and lastly at Uniq Hall on July 16 as part of 26th Istanbul Jazz Festival. The exceptionally gifted artist who captivates audiences with a repertoire of classics from the jazz masters will make his international debut at this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival on November 15.
